Donn LeVie, Jr. Signs Up 30 of the World's Best Classical Guitarists for Essays for Instrumental Influences: Reflections on the Classical Guitar by the World's Best Classical Guitar Performers. Donn LeVie, Jr., author of It's All About HYMN: Essays on Reclaiming Sacred and Traditional Music for Worship (2008) is well on his way with another successful book project, Instrumental Influences: Reflections on the Classical Guitar by the World's Best Classical Guitar Performers. The response from the world's best classical guitarists to Donn's book proposal was overwhelming. "The original proposal was for one artist essay for each of the 20 chapters, plus a foreword and afterword. The enthusiasm and excitement from all the artists I contacted--and their willingness to participate in the project--forced me to adjust the proposal to allow for two artist essays per chapter--and some of those essays will be in Spanish with an English translation provided. I contacted over 40 of the world's best classical guitarists for this project...some have yet to respond because of teaching, touring, or recording schedules, but the few that had to decline because of too many previous commitments had nonetheless expressed enthusiastic support for the project." Instrumental Influences is not another book on classical guitar technique because according to Donn, the market is already saturated with such types of books. Instead, essays in Instrumental Influences will address how through the study, teaching, and performing on the classical guitar has been an "instrumental influence" in other areas of artists' lives or the lives of their students. Donn adds: "I'm also |
Coming Soon: Small Group Discussion and Bible Study Guide for It's All About HYMN: Essays on Reclaiming Sacred and Traditional Music for Worship In the "Afterword" of It's All About HYMN, Dr. John Hamm writes that "this is a book that would serve well as a manual for a discussion group whose purpose is to explore the use of music in worship and how one should go about determining what music is appropriate for use in worship for the 21st century church. One of the strengths of the book that makes it an excellent resource for group study is that the author poses many questions that can be used to stimulate discussion." This summer, the Individual and Group Bible Study Guide to It's All About HYMN will be available. Author Donn LeVie, Jr. writes that the selection criteria for worship music "must not be biased toward personal preferences because worship is not about us. Congregations must understand the accepted criteria for selecting music for worship before throwing open the doors of the sanctuary to anything that has a 'Christian' label on it." The Individual and Group Bible Study Guide will show groups how easy it is to fall into logic and reasoning traps as we try to justify our choices for worship music, and will ask readers some hard questions, reinforced by Scripture, about the intent and purpose of the music we select for worship. The It's All About HYMN Individual and Group Bible Study Guide will be available this summer. |
interested in the flip side of that premise: what personal characteristic of the artist has had an "instrumental influence" on their success with the study, teaching, and performing on the classical guitar. "This is a unique project in so many ways: first, the subject matter has never been addressed through any book on classical guitar; and second, no other project in the history of the classical guitar has gathered together the thoughts and words of so many of the world's best classical guitar performers." Instrumental Influences is scheduled for a November 1, 2010 availability worldwide. |
Coming Soon: Anatomy of a Winning Book Proposal by Donn LeVie, Jr. Shows How to Capitalize on Author 2.0 Publishing and Platform Building Model |
Author Donn LeVie, Jr. has a new book project that shows authors, speakers, coaches, trainers, and others how to put together a successful book proposal for the new author/publishing paradigm, generally referred to as "Author 2.0" or "Publishing 2.0" platform building. Anatomy of a Winning Book Proposal: How to Capitalize on the Emerging Author 2.0 Publishing and Platform Building Model for Increasing Revenue Streams actually documents how author Donn LeVie, Jr. got 30 of the world's best classical guitar performers to provide essays for a book project by convincing them to abandon the arcane traditional publishing paradigm for the emerging author platform model. The idea for Anatomy of a Winning Book Proposal came along just as Donn finished his book proposal for Instrumental Influences: Reflections on the Classical Guitar by the World's Outstanding Classical Guitar Performers: "I realized that the elements of this proposal reflected many of the foundations of so-called 'Author 2.0' platforms and saw how a book on how to assemble a book proposal for such projects would help so many other authors pursuing that direction. I wanted to show others how to take advantage of a different publishing/distribution/revenue stream model I used that could benefit everyone involved in the project-including the 30 essay contributors." Donn details in Anatomy of a Winning Book Proposal how he came up with the idea for the Instrumental Influences book project, how he sold the idea to the 30 of the world's top classical guitar performers to provide essays for the project, how he designed the compensation for essay contributors (and himself), and how he got worldwide distribution of this first-of-its-kind book project for both the classical guitar and classical music world. |
The Author 2.0 Publishing and Platform Building model is not about selling books to readers; it's about building a brand that establishes credibility, expertise, and a demand for the products or services you offer. The book becomes not the focus, but another tool that's used to generate additional revenue for existing income streams. Anatomy of a Winning Book Proposal will be available November 1, 2010. |
Kings Crown Publishing today announced the registration of the month of November as "National Classical Guitar Music Appreciation Month" with the National Special Events Registry to acknowledge the contribution of the classical guitar and classical guitar music to the world of music. It is particularly befitting for the city of Austin, Texas, which is billed as "the live music capital of the world." Most people are not aware that Austin is also home to several world-renowned classical guitarists such as Dr. Matthew Hinsley, executive director of the Austin Classical Guitar Society (ACGS); Dr. Adam Holzman, chair of the classical guitar program at The University of Texas at Austin; Dr. Steve Kostelnik, assistant professor of guitar at Southwestern University; Isaac Bustos, faculty member with the Texas A&M Department of Performance Studies; . |
Tony Morris, executive director of public radio's Classical Guitar Alive! program, to name a few. Austin also has a thriving classical guitar program in several public schools where more than 550 students each day receive classical guitar lessons from trained faculty. The proclamation from the National Special Events Registry reads: The month of November commemorates the music, the teachers, the students, and the artists of the classical guitar, and through study and practice encourages the development of self-discipline, concentration, self-determination, self-awareness, self-expression, patience, self-confidence, perseverance, self-esteem, and the ability to make beautiful music. Former ACGS Board Member and Austin author Donn LeVie, Jr. believes the proclamation is another great attraction for the city of Austin, where it already enjoys a strong reputation in the world of music. "This special recognition for classical guitar comes at a perfect time for the city of Austin, especially after hosting the Guitar Foundation of America conference here in June" he says. "With the truly superb arts groups here, few cities of comparable size-and even larger-can offer the caliber of talent we have available: Ballet Austin, the Austin Symphony, Conspirare, Miro Quartet, the Texas Early Music Project-just to name a few of the many great musicians and vocalists we have here-make Austin a great place to enjoy classical music, and classical guitar in particular." Fans of classical guitar music already know of the outstanding programs and artists the ACGS brings into town each year; now, with this special month-long recognition, the beauty and attraction of classical guitar music will be made known to many others |
